ARCHERY is an excellent sport suitable for the whole family. After basic instruction, supervised shooting sessions usually last for about an hour. Once you have your ‘eye’ in competition can become quite serious and great fun.
At Just Bee Retreat the equipment can be rented from Ruddaman’s Nelspruit, and after a little instruction, many newcomers to the sport achieve well in excess of 50% of the maximum score within a few shots. The equipment consists of a combination of quivers and bow stands which are situated at each butt for the shooters convenience. Instruction methods are fairly standard. The first and correct method is to draw to a fixed anchor point on the face either chin, lips, nose etc. and to use the eye as a rear sight with the circular front sight placed on the target centre. This normally ensures a score within the first three shots. The alternative, which is called the bushman method, is to draw the arrow back to the eye and sight directly down the shaft of the arrow to a point slightly above centre on the target. A very ‘”back to basics” method which has worked successfully for hundreds of year Some of the benefits of ARCHERY are:
