4x4 Trails

Just Bee Retreat has a professionally designed 4x4 training ground which was developed on a previously disturbed low-lying portion of the farm.

4x4 Challenge
Here one can learn how to drive a 4x4 and encourage the best performance from ones vehicle by passing through the different obstacles in the training ground, ranging from steep ascents and descents, camel humps, sand beds, a river run etc. It’s a great achievement to conquer one’s fears of really going off-road. This activity is only offered under the guidance of a professional 4x4 instructor. We promote safe, sensible 4x4-ing, being mindful in protecting this rich wilderness for future generations.

4X4 TRAIL (12km – 2½  to 3 hours)
What could be more luxurious than experiencing the thrill of reaching the mountain top at Just Bee Retreat in the comfort of your own 4x4.

4x4 Training Ground
This guided 4x4 trail follows an old fire-break road which now offers a challenge to 4x4 enthusiasts. Due to the sensitive ecological nature of the terrain, guests are not permitted to drive the trail unattended and need to have previous 4x4 training to negotiate the steep up-hills and descents, mud patches, thousands of rocks and skeleton hill, a very steep, long descent. Varied and exciting stuff !

For passengers the trail offers more than just ‘hanging on’ in the 4x4. The views are spectacular and often wildlife such as duiker, mountain reedbuck, monkeys and baboons and many kinds of birds are spotted.

There are stops along the way allowing guests the opportunity to walk into the old indigenous forests with crisp mountain streams. It is worth a small detour on foot to feel, hear, see and smell what these forests and mountain streams have to offer.
