Fly Fishing

There is much more to fly-fishing than actually catching a fish. At Just Bee Retreat it is the beauty of the surroundings, the sparkle of the fast flowing rivers and tranquillity of the dams. It is the inner peace, which comes from being alone with nature, away from the everyday hustle and bustle. It is the satisfaction after a long hard day, sharing ones fishing adventures with friends around the campfire.

DAM FISHING - WATER LILY DAM on the northern boundary has varied fish species including Barbel, Carp and Kurper, giving the fly-fisherman the ultimate challenge.

RIVER FISHING - the ELANDSKLOOF RIVER and part of the CROCODILE RIVER are not easy rivers to fish, but therein lies their charm. It takes a while to get to know the best lies and it will probably take a number of visits to identify these spots. All pools along the rivers have potential, but there are certain areas where the grass is kept short for easy access. Brown trout breed naturally in these waters and are rather elusive to the inexperienced fisherman.

Just Bee Retreat encourages fishing by catch and release, should you be unfamiliar with these terms and methods, please enquire before you set off fishing.

The Kwena Basin Conservancy hosts a prestigious, annual Fly-Fishing Challenge in May. The Crocodile River in the vicinity of Verlorenkloof is stocked with tagged trout from Lunsklip Fisheries and one can win exciting prizes. The funds raised go towards conservation and to uplift our local education which is also supported by the Junior Primary Department at WITS.
